COLETTE Sidonie-Gabrielle. Chéri illustré de 57 pointes sèches originales gravées par Vertès.
Paris, Éditions de la Roseraie, 1929.
In-4 (292 x 232 mm), 2 volumes: T1 - 171 pp., [2] ff.; T2 - suite of drypoints in first and second states, unnumbered. Covers and spine preserved. Full wine-red morocco, raised bands on the spine, author and title stamped in gold, gilt edges on witnesses, lined with blue morocco and blue silk guards, slipcase (Blanchetière).
"Edition by a major modern figure, highly sought after and valued" (Carteret).
A sublime copy, one of 50 printed for the artist and his friends on Japan paper, featuring the drypoints in triple state, 10 additional loose plates in three states, the 6 rejected plates, and an original pencil drawing signed by the artist, which was used for the illustration of the present work.
The colophon corrects the publisher's error, stating the number of illustrations by Vertès as 47 instead of 57 as indicated in the title.
Slipcases rubbed, one of them cracked over several centimeters. Light white marks of polish on the boards.
From the library of Bernard Bloch-Levalois; his gilt bookplate stamped on the front endpaper.
Carteret, IV, 108.
