Full red morocco, double series of triple gilt fillets framing the boards, inner series decorated with corner fleurons, gilt garland of flowers mosaiced with green leaves and yellow flowers, ornate ribbed spine, boxes decorated with triple gilt fillets, gilt spandrels and central iron, gold-stamped author and title, double gilt fillet on the edges, gilt edges, large inner gilt roulette, almond moiré silk endpapers (Fonsèque).
First edition illustrated with two original etchings by Bracquemond.
The book is illustrated with a total of 24 captioned etchings and 6 out-of-text photogravures with illustrations by Louise Abbema and Georges Clairin.
Our copy, printed on Marais vellum for the etchings and fine English paper for the text, is one of an edition of 1,250 copies.
Small stain on first board, spine ends and corners of headpieces very slightly worn, top corner of second board slightly rubbed, half of bottom headband loose, small scattered light spotting.
